Solar Eclipse in July, 2009
India | Nepal | Bhutan | China
In July 2009, a total solar eclipse will occur across parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan and China.
The path of the eclipse, which will be up to 200km wide, will cross India, passing over some of the best known places in the country, such as Maheshwar and Varanasi. It will then move over the southern tip of Nepal, a great swath of Bhutan, before continuing and then cross China's western border and travel east, passing over some of the best known places in the country, such as Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shanghai. These places will be amongst the best spots to see this phenomenon, although as the band of the eclipse is up to 200km wide, countless other places along its route will also be within range.
Why not combine a trip to India, Nepal, Bhutan or China, with a once in a lifetime chance to see one of nature's most awe-inspiring sights?
How to book
In our experience eclipse events like this are very popular for many locals as well as foreign tourists. Though there is plenty of accommodation in the path of totality for next year's eclipse we would advise bookings be made at least nine months in advance.
